raising a flower May 26 2022

i am raising a flower to those who teach and protect us,
to those who nurture and guide us.

as i stand in my favorite field, delighting in spring and all the budding and blooming, i am thinking about motherhood and all its meanings. i’d like to honor all the caretakers and nurturers who keep us rooted and help us bloom.

i do a lot of planning this time of year, and as i plot and plant in the garden i look out into the open field – my favorite place to sit and stitch. i am thinking ahead to all the things that i will carry to the field to craft, and have begun to make all the parts of this ‘traveling studio’ exactly the way i want them. my first project was a needle book. i delighted in carving out the time to make this a priority – to make something for myself, so well thought out and useful. i made eight of them, one of them is for me. maybe one of the others is for you?
