November 2013- Making Holiday Centerpieces November 01 2013
This time of year is filled with parties large and small. I appreciate these events, but need a lot of quiet time in between in order to appreciate the ones I attend. I enjoy the anticipation of such events, especially when I have a role in creating them.
When I host or decorate, I like to have time to think about the people and the season... maybe experiencing the falling maple leaves or the crisp air. In the past, sadly, there was a part of me that felt resentful of the lack of recognition I would receive for these efforts, but I kept at it year after year, until it finally dawned on me that I do it for myself. I take immense pleasure in the creating and in the sharing regardless of what others do or don't do.
So, finally, now that the big holiday orders are shipped out, you might find me making gifts and decorations from a bottle of homemade wine, a pie pumpkin I grew in my garden, this year's canning experiments, a flower, leaves and stick bouquet or a little felt acorn.
This year I decided on a centerpiece that could also be separated and used as placeholders at the table with a few felt snow flakes raining down on the table.
Happy Holidays, my friends; I am grateful for your support. And happy creating — enjoy the joy it brings you.
