a handy pocket for the shifting season September 20 2025

the golden light of this shifting season fills me with a sense of reflection and a whisper of melancholy at the passing of summer.*

the outdoors looks its most beautiful right now, but it feels fleeting. the best way to shift my perspective and feel truly present is by spending as much time as possible outside absorbing the light. this means a walk in the woods or planting myself in the field with a stitching project and my journals. my pocket purse is very well used this time of year - filled with the essentials for a day spent outside and in motion.

*i have a deep sadness about the state of our country and planet, but that is a different conversation.

a pocket purse is the perfect little bag for your most important things so they can always be distinguished from all of the other things we tote around in a day. i call these things my EDCs (my every day carries). i often wear my purse when my outfit has no pockets. i wear it around the studio, on walks in the woods, and when i’m out running errands. i like to use my pocket purse inside a larger project bag to keep my essentials within reach.

this collection of one-of-a-kind pocket purses is stitched with botanicals using my favorite mohair/silk yarn from the lamb & kid. this perfect little purse is made from plant-dyed organic cotton/hemp fabric and can be worn cross-body, over your shoulder, or around your waist.

pocket purses are also available plain (or stitch your own with a DIY pocket purse kit). i like to adorn plain purses with a decorative pin. i have a new small batch collection of plant-dyed wool felt flower pins in my shop.

i can’t stop making these pins! these wool felt flowers are the perfect way to use up my plant-dyed wool felt remnants. the scraps feel extra precious as i grew the flowers in my dye garden and dyed the felt in my home dye studio. flower pins are a sweet embellishment for a plant-dyed pocket purse, a tote bag, or a coat.

PS: myra likes to nap in fabric that is awaiting a good scour before it is submerged into the mordant and dye bath.
