it's time to get outside! 🌿 April 04 2026

i share a lot about my love affair with plant-dyed fabrics
but i am also completely enamored with indian block printed cotton.

this fabric is stunning, light, and versatile. the vibrant pops of color make their way into the lining of my imperfect patch kits, letter writing pockets, and a new small-batch collection of reversible tote bags. it is bright and springy - matching my energy at the beginning of this new season. more time outside means my trusty tote bags and pocket purses are always at the ready. i made a new collection of both to celebrate the season.

farmer’s markets are beginning and lingering outdoors is feeling just right. the days are finally longer, the temperatures are slowly warming up, the trees are budding, and the forest floor is lush. the blossoming of this season, with it’s promise and predictability, brings me such joy.

‘before a departure in spring’ by w.s. merlin

…to believe it is here and here again and awake

reaching out in silence into the cool breath

of the garden just risen from darkness and days of rain…

i think this is a perfect ode to spring. find the full poem here.

a feast of textiles… i get lost for hours in these heaps of gorgeous fabrics, creating combinations of plant-dyed organic cotton/hemp and block-printed cotton. every bag is unique. i made a new collection of these reversible tote bags for my shop, each measuring 12 x 13” and with a 12.5" loop strap. the pocket size varies between the totes, but all are large enough to hold a phone. i especially like to bring a reversible bag  when i travel so i can spice up my same old clothes as i tend to bring more stitching projects than outfits in my suitcase.

i wear this purse when my outfit has no pockets. i wear it around the studio, on walks in the woods, and when i’m out running errands. i also like to tuck it into a project bag to keep my essentials within reach. a pocket purse is the perfect little bag for your most important things, they can always be distinguished from all of the other things we tote around in a day. i call these things my EDCs (my every day carries).

each plant-dyed pocket purse has a hand-stitched botanical tea-dyed patch. the designs have a little pop of color stitched with mohair/silk yarn from the lamb & kid. they carry a beautiful and bountiful array of colors in their bainbridge island shop. this perfect little purse can be worn cross-body, over your shoulder, or around your waist. purses are machine-stitched out of plant-dyed organic cotton/hemp fabric and have an adjustable cotton strap. they measures 7” tall and 5.5” at the bottom, with a slight taper to the top to a 4.5” opening; two cotton twill straps measure 27” each.

i have the materials that i use every day in my shop. my collection of craft supplies includes an assortment of plant-dyed fabrics (various weights of organic cotton/hemp, organic hemp linen, and wool felt), silk ribbon, and sashiko thread.

PS: i have been dyeing a rainbow of plant-dyed wool felt for a new DIY kit. myra is very helpful, as always.
