my favorite little bundle for stitching near & far March 14 2026

this little bundle is my adult equivilent of a child’s most beloved stuffed animal.

i am all set for adventuring near and far with my traveling sewing kit. pins, needles, scissors, and thread accompany me everywhere. when i prepare for a trip, i simply need to choose my projects (not an easy task) and i am ready to go.

the traveling sewing kit is now restocked in my shop.

i have a tendency to overwhelm myself with all of the potential projects that could accompany me while i am away from the studio. pre departure i collect all of the possibilities (the pile is often quite large) and then i pare down.

for this trip i brought:
1. one new idea with supplies and a journal
2. a few work projects that take up only a little space: plant-dyed wool felt scissor tips to assemble and botanical stitching for tape measures and scissor slips
3. three articles of clothing to mend that i also intended to wear on this trip

the number of projects depends on the nature of the trip (plane vs. road trip, wilderness vs. visiting friends and family). on my most recent trip i kept this bundle small as the travel was by plane and i was visiting with my daughter and mom. i take great comfort in packing my stitching projects just right and loading up my traveling sewing kit with only the tools i will need. i could literally forget or haphazardly pack everything else that needs to come with me on a trip. i would love to know if any of you are the same way and how you prepare for leaving home.

this traveling sewing kit is the perfect little package.
it is filled with my essential tools and i can tuck a small stitching project inside (like a
block printed stitching, stitch the design, or stitch the scene.) the kit is machine stitched out of plant-dyed organic cotton/hemp fabric and is available in five colors: charcoal, green, red, terracotta, and walnut. each kit is embellished with hand stitched “bursts” on the outside and the inner pocket. it measures 4 x 3.5” when closed and 4 x 10” when open, is lined with off-white wool felt, and has two 3 x 3.5” wool felt pages for pins and needles. the internal pocket measures 4 x 3.75”. a 16” piece of stitched twill tape ties the kit closed.

tucked inside:
• little scissors with a handmade wool felt tip cover
• seam ripper
• spool of grey thread
• 4 colors of embroidery floss (colors enclosed are the same as the colors used to stitch the bursts)
• 2 sewing needles
• 10 straight pins (2 sizes)
• 4 collarless safety pins

the stitch the scene DIY kits, stitch the design DIY kits, and  DIY block printed stitching kits are perfect slow stitching projects to help quiet the mind. by using basic stitches, you can transform a simple image into a little work of art. the stitch the scene/design kits make a little stitching intended to adorn your wall or be worn as a necklace, it can be finished as a pocket or a square. you can turn the block printed stitching into a patch, pocket, wall hanging, card, gift, book cover, quilt piece, or pillow.

these projects tuck in to the traveling sewing kit for on-the-go stitching.
