this time of year is all about making... November 15 2025

this time of year is all about making.
my garden is put to bed and i am a nearly round-the-clock santa elf as i balance making gifts for friends and family with stitching products for my shop. it is in these hectic moments that i feel the most creative. i am full of new ideas as i dye fabric, wrap yarn, assemble kits, sew books, crochet chains, stitch felt. i love the piles and abundance of it all. i keep a candle burning that smells of evergreen to bring in the smell of the season in the dark early mornings and evenings...
so cozy. it is the best.

i grew up in a household with prolific holiday crafting. my mother is an avid knitter and her hands are always especially busy this time of year. she can whip up hats, glovettes, and scarves in a blink and she has knit me countless beautiful sweaters over the years. i have dreams of knitting, but i always end up with a needle and thread in hand instead. i started sketching sweaters in my journal, and they became a holiday ornament. these tiny wool felt fair isle sweaters are an ode to the lovingly stitched knitwear from my mom, in my medium.

i made the fair isle sweater ornaments into a free sewing tutorial so you can make your own. i stitched these with my favorite lace weight mohair/silk yarn from the lamb & kid, i love the texture and vibrant colors. bundles to make your own set of three sweaters are available in my shop. each materials bundle includes enough tea-dyed wool felt, mohair/silk yarn, and thread to make three sweaters. stitch a matching set in all three sizes or play with colors and patterns. hang them on the tree or make a little bunting. they are a sweet gift for a knitter (or a cozy sweater lover) in your life.

if you get extra crafty before the holidays, gift yourself beautiful materials to work with. you can find plant-dyed fabrics of various weights, wool felt, silk ribbon, and sashiko thread in my collection of craft supplies. i also have an assortment of DIY kits in my shop, gift the kit or the finished product.

kata golda in the wild!
i am busy stitching up all sorts of good things to send to osay linger on december 4-7. osay linger is a beautifully curated pop-up featuring over 70 pacific northwest makers… i do most of my holiday shopping at this sale! you can find me in person at the lamb and kid on bainbridge island on saturday, december 13 for a pop-up shop, and at the corson building in seattle for a holiday bazaar on sunday, december 14.

my collection of over 50 free sewing tutorials has abundant inspiration for holiday crafting. there is still time to make a set of thick felt coasters and trivets or scrappy coasters before thanksgiving.
happy stitching!

PS: i think myra wants a fair isle sweater. i’m going to ask my mom.
